Polmadie incinerator decision tomorrow, 7 Dec 2011

(Return to main Polmadie page)

GAINS has been informed that the decision by GCC to awarded a PFI contract to Viridor in Pomaldie is only a recommendation and has to be signed off by the executive committee before it can be awarded. The committee will make its decision tomorrow (8th December) at an open meeting at 10am at City Chambers, possibly allowing the public to question the committee.

As the report making the recommendation was drafted by the Labour administration under Gordon Matheson, it seems likely that it will be passed by the committee. However if 5 members of the committee agree, the decision can be passed to the scrutiny committee.

A local campaigner commented: "This could push the decision back to next year, which means we will then be getting closer to election season. This might mean it is even harder politically to be seen to support an intercity incinerator - especially in one of Glasgow's most deprived regions.
