Italian gasifier put on hold due to concerns over Scottish plant, 24 Feb 2011

Today - Ecofor (the company that wanted to build the incinerator in Pontedera) has announced the renunciation of the construction of the waste incinerator. They said Dumfries incinerator has not sufficient positive results so they will wait at least 18 months to see its emission/process performance. Attached you can find the new SEPA report where they found emession exceedances of dioxin and mercury from Dumfries incinerator.

We have not won the "war" but a "major battle". "Zero waste" approach is not easy to be understood by politcs people and now Ecofor wants to build only a very big landfill but in our opinion they have to build waste treatment facilities before to discharge waste (like car-fluff, etc.) into landfill.

The latest Site Status Report from the Dumfries gasifier can be seen here (the plant was meant to be running in 2009, but probably won't be operational until 2012).
