The site was granted a PPC Part A permit in November 2005. The permit is for incineration of hazardous waste in an incineration plant which is an activity requiring a permit under Schedule 1, Section 5.1 Part A of the Pollution Prevention and Control (Scotland) Regulations 2000 (as amended). The installation is permitted to incinerate up to 125kg of waste in any one hour.

Emission Breaches since 1 January 2008 - figures provided by SEPA on 4 Feb 10

The following emission breaches all relate to CO (carbon monoxide). It is interesting to note that all but one of the breaches occurred between Saturday and Monday - what is it about the weekends that makes these emission breaches more likely? And did they measure for dioxins and furans? (probably not - the law only requires this once every six months).

Carbon monoxide: Wed 2 Jul 08 - Incident - The Estates Operations Manager says he can't find the incident sheet. He says, "..this looks as if it may have slipped through the net unreported." During six half-hour periods between 20.30 and 23.59 on 2 July 08 the rate of emissions of CO rose from a normal average of 1mg/m³ to as much as 1349mg/m³.

Carbon monoxide: Sun 31 Aug - Mon 1 Sep 08  - Incident - Boiler feed pump bearings broke. 5669gms CO emitted over 11 hour period (maximum allowed 1287gms).

Carbon monoxide: Sat 20 Sep 08 - Incident - Aerosol exploded, blowing out the burners. 654gms of CO emitted (maximum allowed 59gms)

Carbon monoxide: Mon 8 Dec 08 - Incident - autoshutdown. Report sheet says the elevated figures are 'default' due to autoshutdown. Total CO weight not provided.

Carbon monoxide: Mon 23 Nov 09 - Incident - 'Waste lime, hopper blockage, incinerator restart'. Report sheet says the daily average was within permit conditions, but over three half-hour periods the emissions jumped from an average of 1mg/m³ to as much as 274.9mg/m³. Total CO2 weight not provided.
