Emission breaches - update provided by SEPA on 8 June 2010

ln the first quarter of 2010 there has been one incident at the AP Jess (Environmental) Ltd facility in Brechin (PPC/E/20044). The incident occurred on 8 February 2010 when the manual over-rise control for the dosing pump was accidentally activated and a large dose of material entered the kiln. This resulted in a 1/2 hourly breach of CO (224 mg/Nm3 actual v 100mg/Nm3 permit limit), SO2 (604 v 200 mg/Nm3), HCI (167 v 60 mg/Nn13) and Dust (70 v 30mg/Nm3). The daily average HCI level was also breached as a result of the incident (28.3 v 10 mg/Nm3). On February 25 2010 the operators for the Brechin facility notified SEPA that the plant was to cease operating whilst they assessed the long term viability of the site. The plant has remained on a care and maintenance basis since that time with no incineration activities' taking place.

Concerns over former incinerator, 26 April 2010 - Brechin residents have expressed concern about the possible future use of a former incinerator. The A.P. Jess Environmental Ltd animal incineration plant at Brechin, formally known as Sacone Environmental, was mothballed in March with the loss of 12 jobs. Read more
