BINN FARM, near Abernethy and Glenfarg - Proposal for municipal waste gasification facility by SITA - map location

Campaign website:

Tayside Environmental Action Group (soon to change to 'Abernethy Action Group')

Facebook groups - 'No incinerators in Perth and Kinross'

Applicant:

SITA

Technology:

Gasification with energy-from-waste

Capacity:

60,000 tonnes per annum

Local authority:

Perth & Kinross Council

Application

Click here to open the Council's planning portal, and type in the application number 10/01767/FLM. Alternatively you can go here for the list of documents related to the application.

(you can also do a search for application 06/01427/FUL, the earlier application for a conventional waste incinerator that was passed on 19 December 2006)

Status of current application:

Earlier proposals for a conventional incinerator received full planning consent in Dec 2006 despite 270 letters of objection (mostly from residents of Abernethy which is just 2 miles downwind of the proposed site). SITA applied for a PPC operator's license from SEPA in March 2009 triggering 60 letters of objection. In April 2010 the company announced that it was changing its plans from incineration to gasification, but has not withdrawn its PPC license application for its earlier proposals.

Binn Farm has completed its Pre-Application Consultation with the public, and has now applied for planning consent for a gasification plant.  The Development Control Committee of Perth and Kinross Council will consider the proposal on 19 October 2011.
