GAINS response to consultation on ROC subsidies for energy generated by waste incineration, 13 January 2012

GAINS has submitted a brief response to the Government's consultation on the level of ROC subsidies for energy generated by waste incineration. In summary, we have suggested there should be no subsidies for waste incineration, as it undermines efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle, and doesn't take into account the energy used to make the products in our rubbish.

The Government says it will analyse and consider all responses along with any other available evidence to reach a decision on changes to the ROC bands under the RO in Scotland.  They will issue a summary report on the consultation exercise by the end of January 2012, and a response outlining the way ahead as soon after that as possible.  These will be available on the Scottish Government website.
