Greater Glasgow's Waste Revolution: the proposals.

There are four new recycling and/or energy-from-waste plants planned for the West of Scotland.

They are:

VIRIDOR

Location: Polmadie, Glasgow

Nature: Recycling depot and energy-from-waste plant.

Jobs: 75 full-time and 175 during construction phase.

Size: Will process at least 175,000 tonnes a year and generate enough power for 22,000 homes.

Investment: Around £150m

Status: Backed by Glasgow City Council but the scheme is still awaiting planning permission and permits

LIFETIME RECYCLING VILLAGE

Location: Off M77 south of Newton Mearns

Nature: Recycling depot and energy-from-waste plant

Jobs: 700

Size: Will process 1.5m tonnes of waste and generate enough electricity to power 100,000 homes.

Investment: £640m

Status: Proposed by new and relatively small firm and awaiting permits and permissions. Facing mass opposition from well-organised locals.

PEEL ENVIRONMENTAL 1

Location: Bogmoor Road, Hillington.

Nature: Recycling depot and energy-from-waste plant.

Jobs: 45 permanent, 350 during construction phase.

Size: Will process at least 250,000 tonnes a year and generate enough electricity to power 28,000 homes.

Investment: Around £145m

Status: Proposed by major corporation Peel Holdings; about to begin planning, permits process.

PEEL ENVIRONMENTAL 2

Location: Rothesay Dock, Clydebank.

Nature: Recycling depot with anaerobic digestion facility to process organic waste.

Jobs: 40 permanent, 150 during construction phase.

Size: Will process 250,000 tonnes of rubbish a year, including kitchen slops and garden waste, and create, among other outputs, 108,000 tonnes of fuel and 1.6MW of power.

Investment: Around £35m

Status: Proposed by major corporation Peel Holdings; about to begin planning, permits process.
