Firm bids to get Glasgow’s waste, 5 Feb 2012
East Lothian News (Return
to main Dunbar-Viridor page)
The company behind the plan for a £200 million waste incinerator near Dunbar is hoping to overturn a planning condition to extend the area it covers in Scotland.
Viridor is restricted to treating non-hazardous residual municipal, commercial and industrial waste from East Lothian, Midlothian, Scottish Borders, City of Edinburgh and West Lothian at its proposed new energy from waste facility at its landfill site at Oxwellmains near Dunbar.
The company now wants to vary the condition in line with fresh policy from the Scottish Government and guidance from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency to extend this to Fife, Stirling, Falkirk, Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.
The controversial proposal for the energy from waste facility was given the green light by Scottish Ministers back in 2010 after East Lothian Council’s planning committee turned it down.
